Salary Range: $29,000-$35,000

GRTC Transit System in Richmond, Virginia seeks a skilled candidate, at least 21 years of age, to assists its Electronic Technicians in basic maintenance of GRTC automatic fare collection (AFC) equipment, fare boxes, ticket vending machines, road-calls service, decommission of vehicles, reporting of camera malfunctions and updating electronic bus head signs.  The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent with up to (1) one year of mechanical experience.  Must be able to obtain a CDL Class B Learner’s Permit with a P Endorsement prior to employment.  Successful completion of a background check, DOT Physical and drug test is required.

WORK SCHEDULE
8:00AM – 4:30PM during training.  After training is completed the hours will include a rotating shift to include days, nights and weekends.
    
JOB DESCRIPTION
The position assists the Electronic Technicians in basic maintenance of fare boxes, road-calls, and updating electronic bus headsigns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assists the Electronic Technicians in basic maintenance, installation, and trouble shooting of bus and van fare boxes.
  • Assists in basic maintenance, installation, and trouble shooting of GRTC automatic fare collection equipment, fare boxes and ticket vending machines.
  • Performs road-call service for fare boxes and ticket vending machines component replacement, maintenance and field repairs.
  • Keeps Department Manager informed of any problems.
  • Assists customers and operators in reconciling fare collection equipment issues.
  • Assists in updating electronic head signs on buses.
  • Assists in removing electronics equipment from vehicles to be decommissioned.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as required.
  • Ability to use all hand and power tools related to the job.
  • Report any camera issue during vehicles maintenance.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school education and/or equivalent required
  •  0-1 years of mechanical experience.
Physical Demands
  •  Requires indoor and outdoor work.
  •  Indoor work is with good lighting, ventilation, heating and air conditioning.  Outdoor work requires exposure to a wide variety of weather conditions.
  •  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  •  Also requires bending, squatting and kneeling.
