Primary Purpose of Job
The purpose of this position is to oversee the daily operation and coordination of child and adult nutrition programs throughout the Food Bank’s Bronx, Queens & Staten Island network of CookShop program components, as well as develop and maintain strategic partnerships with our community members. The Manager of Community Based Initiatives is will provide management, direction and growth for community and nutrition education programming, and will be responsible for building relationships with schools and community-based organizations to promote expansion of CookShop programming.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the maintenance of the CookShop program components, including all areas of program implementation, compliance and technical support, throughout the Bronx, Queens & Staten Island, to ensure that the programs meet annual goals and assist with submission of grant reports;
  • Manage and collaborate in the planning, recruitment and maintenance of nutrition education programming, participants and partnerships;
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with school staff, administration and collaborative partners to create, strengthen and expand Food Bank nutrition education programming;
  • Oversee coordination of nutrition programming with community-based partnerships to build upon and expand Food Bank nutrition education programming;
  • Manage and facilitate all training of school facilitators, administration, and other school staff, including development and refinement of educational materials and presentations;
  • Collaborate with Food Bank departments to enhance and evaluate community-based program components, such as researching, identifying and securing potential new funding streams to develop new program offerings;
  • Develop and maintain program budget;
  • Contribute to the quarterly newsletter for workshop leaders, teachers, volunteers and partner organizations;
  • Responsible for staff/intern training and supervision;
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Working within a fast-paced environment, this position requires an individual with a keen interest in health and nutrition programming for underserved communities, who possesses a solid understanding of and experience in programs, working and communicating with a variety of audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health, culinary or nutrition education or similar field;
  • Two years experience in project/program coordination, nutrition, physical activity, and/or culinary education, with at least one year of management experience with full time staff;
  • Self-starter with the proven ability to work independently, effectively manage projects, trouble-shoot and provide leadership.;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with public speaking and group facilitation experience required; 
  • Must be able to establish priorities and a course of action for handling multiple tasks;
  • Proficiency in all MS office applications required;

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages a plus.
