The incumbent in this position is responsible for underwriting and rendering loan decisions on consumer and real estate loan applications referred and received through the Loan Decision Engine. Work involves moderate difficulty in reviewing applicant credit information and determining and communicating loan decisions in accordance with underwriting and compliance standards, credit union policy and risk tolerance in a high volume, fast paced environment. Resources to do the job require the ability to analyze and interpret credit information including income tax returns, title reports and all types of valuations including appraisals.

 Essential Duties Include:

  • Analyzes and makes final approval decisions on all consumer and home equity loan applications referred from Loan Decision Engine.
  • Makes appropriate recommendations including counter offering, restructuring and referring to other credit union products/services.
  • Underwrites loans by analyzing credit reports, tax returns, pay statements and W2 forms.
  • Interprets title and property reports and makes appropriate decisions on use of property valuations and appraisals to protect the credit unions interests for home equity loans.
  • Grants or declines loans based on Credit Union policies, guidelines and risk tolerance.
  • Makes recommendations to Senior Consumer Underwriter, CFT Manager or Credit Committee on loans outside of consumer underwriter’s lending authority as delegated by the Vice President of Lending in accordance with the Board of Director’s Loan Policy and Underwriting Guidelines.
  • Provides support and assistance for loan and system testing and for the review of mortgage subordination requests.


  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years experience preferably in consumer lending in an automated decision environment with significant loan approval authority; or an Equivalent combination training and experience will be considered.
  • Strong organizational, technical, analytical and decision making skills.
