Job Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for managing the operations of the Machine Shop work centers and meeting budget, profit and process objectives established for the manufacturing operation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the Machine Shop Operations (for example: CNC Lathe/Mill, Deburrer, Manual Mill, Assembly Operations and CIP).
  • Assist employees to solve operating problems that occur in the Department and communicate the department’s needs of the work center to the Sr. Manager.
  • Manage the activities of the entire Department in attaining daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual goals and objectives, which include but are not limited to: quality, productivity, scrap, rework, attendance, safety, workmanship, and on time delivery.
  • Develop suitable standards and methods to continuously improve efficiency and quality on the work site and improve customer service.
  • Insure process profit centers budgets are realized.
  • Manage, and effectively resolve personnel problems, including potentially volatile situations, within Departments adhering to all UCT policies and procedures and with the assistance of Human Resources as needed.
  • Manage the job evaluation and incentive systems for the entire Department.
  • Hire, motivate, discipline and terminate employees.
  • Properly coach and train those employees in the Department on all processes, procedures and standards.
  • Insure a Career Growth program is developed and completed with each employee in conjunction with his/her personal career goals.
  • Recommend, maintain and enforce safety and HAZMAT policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Support and complete all projects as assigned by the President and Sr. Management team.
  • Initiate and Self-develop your administrative, technical, management and analytical skills.
  • Communicate, and work effectively with other Managers, Supervisors and employees in attainment of the company’s common goals and objectives.
  • Manage and support the activities of the ISO-9000 requirements within the Division.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

    • Be accomplished at managing, delegating, communicating a clear and concise objectives, within a fast-paced manufacturing environment is key.
    • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties, to include all other employees.
    • Strong machine shop knowledge.
    • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion with minimum instructions.
    • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information exposed to.
    • Ability to consistently meet or exceed standards of performance.
    • 5 years’ experience as a Machine Shop supervisor or equivalent
    • Continuous and formal management training is preferred.
    • Previous experience in a company with ISO implementation, certification and re-certifications is preferred.
    • PC skills using Microsoft Word, Excel or equivalent is required to manage a department of this scope. PC skills with other programs in addition are preferred.
    • It is a job requirement that all contacts be treated with professionalism and respect, both internally (internal customers) as well as those outside the company (external customers).

  • Educational/Certification Requirement:


    • B.S. or B.A. in engineering and 5 years experience or High school diploma or equivalent and 10 years commensurate experience in positions of increasing management level within a machine shop environment.
