The Volunteer Relations Manager is responsible for the strategic implementation of developing and managing volunteer opportunities as well as managing recruitment, orientation, retention and recognition of volunteers and volunteer leaders to support Food Bank for New York City events, programs and departments. This position places emphasis on strategic recruitment and retention as well as creating, supporting and retaining volunteer leaders. This position also reflects our shift in expanding Food Bank for New York City's reach and impact through the creation and engagement of a city-wide network of volunteers.
• Strategic multi-year volunteer recruitment planning, recognition strategies and customer service standards
• Manage the development of project quality control standards as well as development of new volunteer opportunities, with a focus on building new opportunities with our member agencies and for us to use in our corporate service program;
• Assist with ensuring the volunteer database is updated in a timely manner;
• Analyze and report out accurate volunteer numbers to drive strategy
• Recruit new volunteers from across New York City through various volunteer websites, organizations, speaking engagements and/or canvassing campaigns; • Liaison for volunteer leaders;
• Speak/table at public events, universities, partner sites, etc. as needed;
• Respond to and manage negative volunteer experiences. Research and implement best practices for volunteer management.
• Assist with retention and recognition of volunteers and volunteer leaders;
• Coordinate volunteer leader schedules;
• Volunteer leader training design and recruitment as well as the development for other volunteer training designs for our member agencies.
• Help plan and execute an annual volunteer awards and recognition event;
• Manage Annual Service Productions: MLK Day of Service, Hunger Action Month, Go Orange Month, Holiday Volunteering
• Assist Director of Engagement & Service with the execution of NYC Food & Wine Festival. Serve as liaison for Festival Volunteer Manager.
? Communications: Ensure the timely production of a monthly e-volunteer newsletter. Work with Marketing and Communication Manager to maximize use of website and social networks for volunteer recruitment and promotion of volunteer activity and events. Write articles/blurbs on volunteer initiatives for Facebook, Twitter, newsletter, e-newsletter, and website.
• Communications.. Maintain the volunteer section of the database, website, and registration system for all volunteer events and activities;
• Manage three (3) AmeriCorps Members and assist with supervision of Coordinator.
• Perform other assigned duties.
• BA or BS; advanced degree and major in leadership development a plus;
• Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
• Available for occasional week night and weekend experiences;
• Knowledge of poverty issues (knowledge of hunger issues a strong plus);
• Excellent organizational skills with a proven reputation for attention to detail;
• Experience with database management. Experience with Salesforce CRM a plus;
• Demonstrated success and acumen in managing, mentoring, and motivating people;
• Experience in managing volunteers, volunteer leaders and volunteer programming preferred;
• Excellent communication and people skills: listening, one-on-one conversation, public speaking and writing;
• Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to project professional competence, leadership capability, & personal maturity;
• Spanish speaking a plus.
