JOB DESCRIPTION:      Director of Development & Marketing
PROGRAM:        Administration
ACCOUNTABILITY:        President/Chief Executive Officer

The Director of Development & Marketing designs and executes the plan for fundraising activities with an annual targeted goal of $1,000,000+; develops and manages community relations; and manages the Office of Development, Marketing, and Volunteer Resources for Lincoln Child Center.  Member of Senior Management Team  working with the President/CEO, Board of Directors, and other key staff to set the strategic direction for the organization within the parameters of the organization’s strategic plan. Supervises an office of professional staff and produces data for strategic decisions.

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree with advanced education preferred.
  • Five to seven years experience in fundraising with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in managing fundraising staff.
  • Experience training, and working with volunteers on fundraising activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; high integrity; ability to work independently and with flexibility; ability to make direct solicitations of donors; knowledge of the East Bay community.
  • Experience/knowledge of capital campaigns, annual giving, and foundation/government grants.
  • Experience using and knowledge of fundraising software.
  • Experience identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donors, especially of gifts at the $50,000 level and higher.
  • Experience creating corporate sponsorship opportunities and successful solicitation of corporations.
  • Experience/knowledge of running marketing campaigns and promoting branding activities.
  • Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to and competence in dealing with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client population.
  • Valid California driver’s license, a clear driving record and personal vehicle insurance coverage.
Development Planning:
  • Develop the fundraising plan, which will identify, and recommend implementation  and evaluation of  strategies for growth.
  • Develop and manage a major gifts program.
  • Create annual and long-term fundraising plans and develop and manage fundraising activities of LCC, which include annual campaign, special events, planned giving and the development of a strong diversified base of support with special emphasis on increased individual gifts.
  • Work with the President/CEO and Board of Directors on strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual major gifts prospects.
  • Work with the Board’s Resource Development Committee and report to the Board on fundraising progress.
  • Motivate and coordinate volunteer fundraising efforts of the Board, and LCC’s auxiliary groups.
  • Supervise the management of the foundation and government grants program.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit corporate donors for general and sponsorship support.
  • Manage and motivate a team towards the completion of goals and activities outlined in the strategic plan.
  • Ensure that department activities abide by Council of Accreditation and Association of Fundraising Professionals standards.
  • Ensure that development database is appropriately utilized by all fundraising staff, and that .gift reporting is accurate.
  • Recommend best practices for fundraising policies such as a gift acceptance policy.
Community Relations/Marketing:
  • Promote community awareness of Lincoln Child Center, its programs and its mission through the development of a community relations and marketing program that features:
    • Materials and brochures promoting LCC activities;
    • Published media articles and presentations;
    • Speakers bureau;
    • Annual Report of Giving and agency activities; and
    • Publication of a newsletter.
    • Website, e:collateral and social media platforms.
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, non-union, exempt, benefited.

COMPENSATION:    Commensurate with background and experience.
