Brand Strategist

·         Responsible for interpreting client needs for action by media planning and buying groups

·         Have a firm grasp of the client’s products and services and their industry at large

·         Strong knowledge of client / competitive category

·         Solid understanding of media math and terminology

·         Dedicated team player, with passion for presenting new ideas

·         Ability to effectively interact with other Horizon departments (i.e. Print, Out of Home, Interactive, Buying)

·         Keep Supervisor and Brand Group Manager abreast of workflow, project status and due dates

·         Collaborate with Supervisor and BGD in creative media solutions

·         Continue to build on expertise of client interaction

 

Job Outcomes:

 

Marketing Driven

·         Develop and present sound, strategic media plans based on client marketing direction

  • Use strong knowledge of client category/competitive activity and sound media principles to guide in strategic thinking
  • Work with Strategy Supervisor on brand marketing protocol (strategies, SWOT analysis, competitive activity, etc)
  • Understand all elements of a clients strategy, media requirements and budgets
  • Identify problems and make recommendations on how to resolve them
  •  Manage the flow of client media-related issues based on changes in marketing direction, goals and budgets (plan revisions)

·         Stay current with evolving media trends and provide recommendations

·         Attend client meetings as appropriate

·         Key contributor during brainstorming sessions

 

Operational/Day to Day

  • Responsible for day to day media plan development, maintenance and execution

·         Responsible for client POV’s, position papers, budget maintenance, position reports, print media authorizations and plan actualizations

  • Maintain strong level of plan accuracy
  • Maintain day-to-day client/agency communications, at appropriate level
  • Support HMI process and policies.
  • Explore media alternatives and be creative in recommending media solutions
  • Coordinate development of media brief with Planning Supervisor
  • Develop and present planning decks
  • Ensure accurate plan development in accordance with Best Practices
  • Attend all relevant client/vendor/ and internal meetings
  •  Be trained in and maintain an understanding of Horizon analytics (IZON, CCRI, ProMatch) and syndicated research (MRI, Arbitron, Nielsen, Scarborough, AdRelevance) and media systems like Workhorse/ColSpace
  • Fluent in R/F systems like IMS/Telecume, etc
  • Assess media posts and develop next steps for action
  • Provide competitive reports, buy summaries and budgets for issue
  • Ensure that all stewardship assignments are performed in a timely fashion (competitive reports, billing issues, post analysis, traffic, promotional activity, etc).
  • Remain current on the status of media assignments and alert appropriate management to any problems or delays
  • Advise Traffic department of specific traffic challenges
  • Where applicable, facilitate work flow and materials needed with the Promotions department
  • Maintain monthly budgets and weekly status reports
  • Lead client calls as appropriate
  • Review all estimate and final billing within the time frame agreed by Horizon and client
  • Manage cost requests to Buying Groups
  • Maintain rapport with internal HMI departments (Research, Activation, Traffic, Systems, Finance)
  • Maintain strong media vendor relationships
  • Negotiate and steward media package contracts
  • Oversee the writing and furnishing of conference reports with Assistant/review prior to issue
  • Ensure plans are clearly labeled, and revisions outlined
  • Help develop case studies
  • Assist in new business projects as needed

 

Team Development

  • Help develop assistant’s growth within Horizon and the industry at large
  • Oversee and proof all work produced by subordinates
  • Help train Assistant Strategists and assist in their performance reviews
  • Develop Assistant Strategists knowledge of media math and marketing terminology
  • Foster good working relationship with Brand Team and client teams
