 Be part of a new artistic era with Andris Nelson and the Boston Symphony as we continue the tradition of bringing world class music to Boston and beyond.  We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our operations team as the Tanglewood Festival Chorus Manager.  You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Chorus operations at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood.  In addition, you will be a key member of our search committee as we look to transition to a new Chorus Director.  Bring your love of music, along with your excellent attention to detail, interpersonal and customer service skills at the forefront of our new musical direction. 

 

Special Interim Project:

  • Serve on the current TFC Chorus Director Search committee. Prepare and distribute periodic summaries, reports and updates to committee members.  Liaise with Chorus Director candidates and consultants in the formation of rehearsal schedules, rosters and travel arrangements.

Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise all services (rehearsals, performances, and recording sessions). Manage, create and distribute a variety of communications, reports, calendars, and policies to the chorus membership including schedules, development of seating plans, attendance, procedures, and handbooks. 
  • Assist Chorus Director with the development of rosters and manage personnel for each concert series.  Work directly with the BSO and POPS Artistic Administrators to implement and ensure all chorus requirements for each season.
  • Supervise the chorus assistant in overseeing chorus library, ordering music, labeling scores, distribute and track returns. Prepare and distribute study CDs, translations, and pronunciation guides.
  • Manage, negotiate and arrange all travel for tours and Tanglewood residency, including hotels/housing, air/ground transportation, and disbursement of travel/meal per diems. 
  • Manage logistics for Holiday Pops Season to cover approximately 40 concerts in a 3-week period.  
  • Manage the audition and re-audition process. Observe all auditions with the Chorus Director and assist as needed.
  • Create and develop the chorus budget. Track budget expenses throughout the fiscal year and re-forecast as needed.
  • Assist Chorus Director with administrative needs including correspondence, library requests, score acquisition and maintenance; travel, hotel, and per diem arrangements.

Qualifications:  Undergraduate degree; at least five years work experience, preferably in a performing arts organization.  Knowledge and passion for classical music; ability to read music required. Excellent organizational, time and project management skills with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adhere to deadlines.  Ability to work with minimum supervision and exercise independent judgment.   Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Strong attention to detail, customer service focus and interpersonal skills.  Ability to deal with all levels of individuals including ability to work with conductors and with large group of volunteer singers.  Computer and database skills essential.
