Job Description:
The primary role of the Residential Counselor is to provide support and care for people diagnosed with mental illness who reside in group home or residential treatment apartment settings.

The Residential Counselor is a direct care position. Duties include assisting clients with daily social and living skills, such as basic grooming and housekeeping; ensuring that residents are taking their medication, plan community outings and appointments, and escort residents to them. Other duties include but not limited to keeping daily records of residents activities, planning menus, grocery shopping, ordering supplies, answering phone and so on. Training and supervision provided.

Job Requirements:

1) High school diploma is required;
2) Experience working in recovery-focused mental health services is preferred;
3) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required;
4) Valid Maine drivers license and good driving record is required;
5) Good PC skill proficiency in Microsoft Office.

This is a general job posting for all Volunteers of America Northern New England mental health programs. It covers locations in Portland, South Portland and Saco, ME and full-time, part-time and per diem vacancies. It does not mean that all locations and all positions are available at this time.
