JOB SUMMARY: The Accounting Assistant is responsible for handling a variety of accounting activities in a deadline focused environment to include, but not limited to, balancing operating cash deposits daily, recording all cash entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, preparing accounts receivable balancing reconciliations and handling various communications with the Company’s banking institution.  In addition, the Accounting Assistant is expected to be cross-trained in the areas of Accounts Payable and Commissions processing to serve as back-up for these duties.  Activities may also include assisting other Accountants and the Accounting Manager as instructed.  The Accounting Assistant works with minimal supervision.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
 
  • Balances operating cash deposits daily and records all necessary cash entries
  • Balance all cash accounts monthly, including operating, claims and premium refunds
  • Point person responsible for quarterly 1099 TIN matching and annual 1099 processing
  • Monthly and quarterly preparation and distribution of Budget Center reports
  • Prepares accounts receivable balancing reconciliation and assists with premium receivable roll forward variance investigation
  • Backup support for accounts payable and commissions processing
  • Prepares, copies and files all internal documentation for journal entries
  • Provides general clerical support as assigned
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE
 
  • High School Diploma Required, some collegiate accounting focused exposure a plus
  • 4 or more years financial accounting experience required
  • Property & Casualty Insurance experience a plus
  • Experience with Great Plains Accounting Software or equivalent
  • Must be detail oriented, good basic math skills required
  • Ability and flexibility to work in a deadline focused environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new software applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate; strong Microsoft Office skills
