GRTC Transit System seeks a skilled candidate to oversee the administration of bi-weekly payroll operations, and to ensure all payroll functions are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives.

WORK SCHEDULE
Typically, 8:00AM - 4:30PM, Monday thru Friday. May require work on holidays and weekends depending on the payroll checks and wage related payments.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position serves as the payroll administrator for the Finance Department. The primary duties include administration of the day-to-day payroll functions of Finance and to ensure operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles. These duties include responsibility for full and timely processing of all payroll functions.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 
 
  • Process payroll. Manage exempt and non-exempt payroll as well as assist in the processing year end W-2’s, social security records. May require work on holidays and weekends depending on the payroll schedule.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records that provide support for bi-weekly payroll checks and wage related payments.
  • Compile, verify, and distribute bi-weekly/monthly/quarterly payroll reports.
  • Process garnishments, liens, deductions and withholdings.
  • Maintain accounting for 401A/457 plan withholdings.
  • Perform weekly audits/comparisons of personnel files to payroll records.
  • Perform bi-weekly tests of Personnel Action Requests to payroll, insurance and pension records.
  • Update monthly salary and hourly sick leave.
  • Process Tax deposits b0-weekly
  • Process all deductions including tax withholding, FUTA, SUTA, income tax, FICA and make deposits in a timely manner.
  • Compile, verify, and distribute applicable reports.
Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills required.
  • Accounting, financial and payroll skills required.
  • Experience in a Union environment preferred.
Education and/or Experience
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or equivalent experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills required and high attention to detail required.
  • Payroll processing experience preferred.
  • PC proficient in Windows, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
