JOB SUMMARY: 
Senior Programmer Analyst is responsible for analyzing system problems and needs, program system fixes to existing applications, assisting in the development of program design specifications and developing new programs to automate business processes.  Acts as a liaison between business users and the IS Department.  Handles communications, interprets user needs and builds automation plans to assist users.  Position will consist of a wide variety of tasks including development, maintenance, and implementation.  Development tasks will vary in scope from small projects with quick implementation timelines to complex projects that span months and may consist of multiple phases.  This position may also require mentoring of lower level programmers.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
 
  • Manage technical aspects of program development, modification, and problem resolution.  Actively participate in the development of technical workflows and procedures, and documenting existing and developed systems.
  • Maintain existing or develop new COBOL/CL programs. Develop automated system functionality.  Develop AS 400/SQL informational queries and databases.
  • Implement new products for the automating business processes. As necessary, work with vendor on improving/implementing features and functions.
  • Maintain all project activities in Library Control/Source Management System.
  • Understand and satisfy the business unit data and report needs.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation.  Participate/act as team resource in the development of other programmers and analysts, especially in areas of personal expertise.  Contribute to team and department goals in addition to achieving individual goals.
  • Additional duties and special projects as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE
 
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent education and experience in the business information technology, computer science or other related field.
  • Experience with AS400 COBOL/CL/SQL required.
  • Five or more years insurance development experience (P&C insurance a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Point and Point IN System, web language, MKS Source Integrity/Implementer experience desired.
  • Microsoft Network environments a plus.
  • Ability to coordinate complex problems involving various audiences.  Ability to positively interact with all internal and external customers.
  • Ability to prioritize, evaluate and handle situations effectively including appropriate recommendations. Ability to plan, multi-task and focus on detail.
  • Strong analytical, decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service, problem solving, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate; advanced Microsoft Office skills (to include data entry accuracy and detail orientation skills) and ability to learn new software systems and programs.
