Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·          Monitor and support proprietary and COTS hardware and software networked via global terrestrial and RF/satellite communications equipment in support of critical 24x7 operations.

o    Primarily responsible for monitoring and supporting a network of Linux/UNIX servers.

·          Provide service to US Army business partners and information technology professionals (to include third party support contractors) in the following areas:

o    Ensure at least 99.95% system uptime and network availability

o    Work with other NOC personnel and customer support staff in troubleshooting various problems and addressing network outages.

o    Perform first-level problem isolation and root-cause analysis, and escalate as required.

o    Perform real-time system monitoring, traffic tracking, and trend analysis using network management tools (e.g.: EM7, NITRO, CiscoWorks, WhatsUp Gold), UNIX scripts and command lines, and Cisco IOS commands.

o    Responsible for composing accurate, informative, and timely network outage notifications, maintenance window notifications, and other customer correspondence

o    Perform change control by monitoring and verifying all network changes against approved change requests and coordinating maintenance windows between the support engineers and the customer.

o    Log, track, update and follow-up with every incident through satisfactory resolution and closure via our incident reporting system (SDE Remedy) and the customer’s internal ticketing system.

o    Adhere to established standard procedures and protocols when performing technical functions.

o    Generate and analyze system monitoring, management, and performance reports using both proprietary and COTS tools.

Execute backup procedures and disaster recovery plans to meet operational standards. 
 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

·          Respond to customer calls, emails, and other forms of communications expeditiously and with courtesy.

·          Assist NOC manager in the development of essential training materials and documentation.

Present information to Comtech and Government management team members via briefings, telephone conferences, and written correspondence.

Minimum Job and Skill Requirements:

·          United State citizen with active SECRET level clearance (active within last 2 years is acceptable) 

·          CompTIA Security+ Certification is required for this position.

·          Documented training or certification in at least one of the following areas: basic Linux administration, basic Windows administration, or Network Device administration

·          Must be able to work flexible shifts as necessary in support of 24x7 operations.

·          Proficiency with the Linux/UNIX operating environment and basic shell scripting, with special emphasis on monitoring a wide range of network processes and diagnostic scripts.

·          Basic experience in the TCP/IP networking environment and network troubleshooting skills.

·          Basic understanding of network security methodologies and best practices.

·          Effective written and verbal communication skills (technical/non-technical).

·          Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
 Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, including MS Office applications (Exchange, Excel, Word, SharePoint).

Preference may be given to candidates with the following assets:

·          BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

·          CompTIA Linux+ or RHCSA/RHCE certifications are highly desired.

·          Experience with the Linux/UNIX operating system, shell scripting, or Perl scripting.

·          Experience and/or certifications in Windows, Networking (Cisco), Security

·          Experience with 24/7 operations, customer service, network/system management and monitoring.

·          Familiarity with network management/monitoring tools such as EM7, NITRO, CiscoWorks, WhatsUp Gold.

·          2+ years in a Customer Service environment with exceptional phone and email etiquette.
 Prior military or DoD service experience.

Work Environment:  

This position is located in a 24x7 Network Operations Center, with frequent exposure to a lab and computer operations environment and their associated noise levels.

 

Must be able to work flexible shifts as necessary, including nights, weekends and holidays.
