Loss Prevention Specialist -- Mortgages

Primary Function: The person in this role is responsible for the collection and recovery of past due mortgage accounts for the Credit Union. Work involves moderate difficulty in arranging payment commitments with credit union members and recovering past due payments from high-risk accounts. Representative must adhere to pre-established guidelines when arranging payment commitments and determining next step remedies. Incumbent will counsel members with delinquent loans using specific knowledge of Credit Union policies, procedures as wells as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to maintain respectful relationships with members while avoiding credit union losses. Work involves making recommendations regarding negotiated resolutions of mortgage collection matters. General supervision is received from the Manager of Loss Prevention.
  • Contact credit union members by telephone to arrange payment commitments.
  • Make recommendations for further collection action,  including loan workout modifications, short sales and/or foreclosures.
  • Apply payments on all applicable platforms/systems.
  • Apply skip-tracing and negotiate acceptable payment arrangements for pre/post-charge off accounts, while exhibiting superior follow up skills for payment resolution in an expedient and professional manner.
  • Prioritize workload to meet or exceed monthly collection and contact goals.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of all legal documents and performs all required account maintenance upon notification
  • Provide support for other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Adhere to and ensure compliance of all business transactions with policy and process of the Bank Secrecy Act Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, company procedures and policies. Maintains integrity and ethics in all actions and conversations with or regarding credit union members and their accounts; complies with Privacy Act directives.
Suggested training and experience: 
  • High School graduate (some college preferred) and minimum three years experience in collections; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous mortgage collections experience preferred. 
  • Experience in short sale, foreclosure, and mortgage modification regulations is a plus.
  • Must be customer-service and quality-focused and have the ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment. 
  • Must possess excellent (oral and written) communication, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate effective time management, prioritization skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Some overtime is required.
