The following are tasks to be performed by the Machinist-Journeyman. The duties are not limited to this list. Any additional requirements, changes, or deletions will be at the discretion of the Manufacturing Manager. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and duty satisfactorily.
 
SUMMARY: General daily responsibilities include setting up and running prototype and production jobs in a manner that is consistent with Altek’s Quality Standards. Will follow pre-existing Standard Work Instructions as well as develop new ones per Altek format. Responsible for supporting lean manufacturing principles, trouble shooting shop floor issues, training machine operators and fostering teamwork. Work with a sense of urgency to promote on time delivery and adhere to the goals and expectations as defined by management.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
·         High School Degree or GED
·         Certificate of Completion in Machine Technology course (preferred)
·         At least 10-years’ experience in automated production setup and machining
·         Experience with various machine tool controls (G-M Codes & Mazatrol a plus)
·         Experience with automated equipment common to machining environment i.e. CNC Lathes, CNC Vertical Mills, Citizen Screw Machine and/or Horizontals
·         Working knowledge of geometric tolerance, trigonometry and mathematical formulas needed to calculate machining processes.
·         Experience with CAD/CAM software a plus
·         Quality conscious attitude and pride of ownership in designated responsibilities
·         Possess comprehensive reading skills
·         Possess mathematical skills necessary for industry skill set
·         Able to communicate effectively in writing and orally
·         Intermediate computer skills
·         Must have a reasonably complete set of personal tools
 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Perform production machining according to Altek’s Quality Policies & Procedures.
  • Inspect product according to Altek’s Quality Policies & Procedures.
  • Setup equipment to run production according to blueprints.
  • Develop and maintain product/setup documentation.
  • Troubleshoot processes, programs, equipment and tooling.
  • Program shop floor Mazatrol and edit CNC programs to maintain product quality.
  • Manage workload and changing priorities.
  • Design and build fixtures and work-holding devices.
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build and maintain positive rapport with other Altek employees, customers and suppliers.
  • Exhibit positive communication and behavior skills.
  • Audit other employees in meeting quality standards.
  • Adapt and modify as situations change.

All Machining Tools - expected to personally own most, or be willing to purchase, upon hire.
