We have a great opportunity to gain valuable arts administration experience in a fast paced environment at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA. You will be responsible for assisting the Associate Director for Student Affairs in the management of TMC Fellow personnel activity and the supervision of playing services of the TMC Orchestra (TMCO), as well as of other large TMC ensembles and master-classes.
Responsibilities:  
  • Assist in the management and supervision of rehearsals and performances for TMC Orchestra and other large ensembles as directed. Regulate service start times, stop times, and breaks, including calling musicians to the stage when needed. Advise Stage Manager as to the status of proper operational conditions for the orchestra. Monitor and maintain beverage service. 
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of attendance at all playing services. Report and advise on both unexpected and pre-arranged absences, as well as any other personnel problems. As directed, implement appropriate disciplinary measures pertaining to absences, tardiness, and other misconduct.
  • Report on the need for temporary and permanent seating adjustments, and/or assignment of substitute personnel; implement changes as directed.  
  • Report on and monitor musicians' injuries if and when they arise. Grant permission for musicians to sit out of rehearsal when warranted, advising musicians to seek proper medical attention for injuries.
  • Gather, distribute, and monitor changes to posted rehearsal orders. As needed, inform conductors of TMCO policies, musician absences, and related issues. Report any feedback from conductors or faculty on musicians' performance. 
  • Assist in posting of schedules and official communications. Make announcements to orchestra as necessary.  
  • Manage the borrowing of auxiliary instruments.  
  • Monitor overall TMC posted schedule, including updates, and advise on any needed adjustments to meal and transportation schedules. 
  • Assist in routine clerical matters and transportation of Fellows as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:  College degree or equivalent experience. Experience as an orchestral musician and/or orchestra personnel manager. Knowledge of classical music repertoire. Basic computer proficiency. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills. Outstanding attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain trust and confidentiality. Ability to handle situations with tact and patience. Ability to multitask. Ability within a non-traditional work schedule, including nights and weekends. Ability to work well as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment. Valid Driver's license and car.
