Job Summary: 
On a daily basis interacts courteously with hospital personnel, physicians and their office staff to provide the best possible service. May be responsible for any or all of the following: for correct retrieval and filing of charts utilizing the record locator system in MEDITECH; correctly filing dictated reports and loose reports; answering the telephone, taking messages and responding to requests appropriately; performing daily chart pick-up of records on North and South campuses of previously discharged patients; correctly assembling records and analyzing records for missing documentation and completion; abstracting information from the medical record and entering the information into the MEDITECH system; processing dictated reports for distribution to physician offices; completing Birth Certificates and Acknowledgement of Paternity affidavits in accordance with state requirements; scanning patient records to support coding staff, filing coding summaries and physician communication forms as appropriate; assisting coding staff in locating charts not received; locating missing documentation for Coders to complete their work; timely abstracting and case finding for cancer registry and using the State Cancer Registry software. Rotates weekends in the Main Medical Records Department as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Regulatory Requirements:
·                    High School graduate or equivalent.
·                    1 or more years of similar previous hospital experience, preferred.
·                    Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred.
·                    Knowledge of cancer registry coding and case finding preferred.
 
Language Skills:
·                    Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

·                    Basic computer knowledge.
