Purpose: Provides university-wide human resources support in the areas of new hire orientation, employee relations and retention, talent acquisition, performance management, regulatory compliance, payroll, compensation, benefits, safety, and organizational development.  Conducts research, analysis and studies major issues to enhance services. Develops strong partnerships with and provides professional human resources services to departments. Advises and consults with managers on employee and human resources issues, university policy and practices.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Department Administration
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Manages special events for staff by coordinating committees and schedules within budget (i.e.
  • Benefits Fair, Faculty and Staff Picnic, President’s Christmas Party, and Service Awards).
  • Processes bi-weekly payroll and maintains employee data in HR systems.
  • Creates and maintains personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements.
  • Updates department forms, brochures, policies, website, and literature, as needed.
  • Maintains data for various HR metrics.
  • Performs administrative functions for the department.
Workforce Planning and Employment
  • Manages employee recruitment including coordinating job advertisements, reviewing resumes, screening candidates, conducting reference checks and general correspondence with candidates.
  • Develops and oversees University background and reference check programs.
  • Conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Manages new hire and ongoing employee paperwork.
  • Analyzes exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Assists with developing and updating new and existing job descriptions.
  • Assists the HR Director in the performance appraisal process.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Administers benefit plans according to each plan’s rules and regulations. Determines eligibility and notifies employees who meet criteria. Approves changes resulting from qualifying events. Processes enrollment, change, and termination forms for all benefit programs, utilizing online web tools to process forms when available. 
  • Assist Director with annual open enrollment.
  • Develop and administer the University’s wellness initiative in cooperation with the Wellness committee.
  • Design, compile, and market current wellness activities through the University.
  • Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate.
  • Processes all COBRA enrollments and payments. Notifies Director of HR when an individual may be eligible or elects COBRA and when underpayments require dropping covered individuals.
 Human Resource Development
  • Participates in professional development and training.
  • Assists in organizational training and development efforts.
  • Trains management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.

Employee and Labor Relations

  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
  • Recommends changes in personnel policies, procedures, and programs. 
  • Occupational Health, Safety, and Security
  • Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier.


·         Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
·         3+ years human resources experience.
·         Higher education experience preferred.
·         Datatel Colleague experience preferred.
·         Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel. 
·         The successful candidate will have a high level of integrity, ethics and professionalism and must have a strong customer service orientation.  
·         The successful candidate must be self-motivated, willing and able take initiative, and able to work both independently and with a team.
